The Role:
Working as part of the Recoveries team responsible for managing a portfolio of historic claims ranging in value from £50,000 up to £1m.
You will report to and be supported by the Recoveries Team Manager (RTM).
Key Activities:
Work as part of a team to manage a varied communal case load of historic claims from initial review through to completion to maximise opportunities for cost recovery from insurance companies, property developers and other relevant parties. This will include but is not limited to:
o Receive new cases for review.
o Work with Paralegals to complete initial case review within agreed timeframe.
o Check all case details to ensure information is accurate and complete. Identify and remedy any queries, discrepancies and/or omissions.
o Investigate case fully to identify opportunities for cost recoveries.
o Prepare recoveries strategy review in consultation with the team.
o Progress each recoveries case through to conclusion, completing agreed actions in a timely manner.
o Instruct Paralegals to draft, review and amend a range of legal documents, including letters, reports, etc.
o Manage all negotiation with stakeholders. Ensure all parties are kept up to date with case developments.
o Accurately interpret legal documentation, expert reports and insurance policies. This will include relevant building safety and fire safety legislation.
o Manage the appointment of counsel where appropriate. Liaise with external legal partners and manage relationships accordingly.
o Instruct Paralegals to raise and/or request payments as appropriate, ensuring all information is accurate and complete.
o Update Case Management Portal System to ensure all records are accurate and complete, and all data is securely stored following appropriate guidelines.
Assist colleagues from across the business in handling other legal queries not directly related to recoveries cases as required.
Participate in any internal or external training as required. The company will cover the cost of any training fees but reserves the right to claim back some or all of the costs should you leave the company within a certain timeframe (as stipulated in your contract of employment).
Manage inbound and outbound calls, emails and letters with insurers, policyholders, property developers, fellow professionals and industry specialists.
Manage diary to ensure optimum use of time and resources, meeting all agreed deadlines.
Adopt a proactive approach when managing case portfolio.
Ensure customers are treated fairly, abiding by all relevant legal requirements, industry guidelines and company standards.
On occasion, opportunities may arise to join other colleagues on site visits across the UK.
Actively participate in team discussions to highlight issues and promote group learning.
Perform other tasks as reasonably required by RTM or Senior Management.
Skills and Experience required:
A newly qualified Solicitor with a background in cost recoveries, insurance claims and property litigation.
Demonstrable ability to effectively manage a varied case load.
Proven ability to robustly challenge and negotiate, demonstrating resilience and professionalism when under pressure.
Demonstrable experience of reviewing and interpreting legal documents.
Experience of IT systems including MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams, and experience of Claims Management or Case Management Portal Systems. Training on company systems will be given.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Knowledge of housebuilding and/or the general construction industry would be advantageous but training will be provided as required.
Qualifications:
As a minimum, completed SQE or LPC and completed two years full-time (or equivalent) qualifying work experience (QWE), or completed CILEX Professional Qualification (CPQ). Candidates with a greater level of experience are also invited to apply.
Minimum GCSE English Language grade 5/C or equivalent.
