Recoveries Case Handler

The Role:
Working as part of the Recoveries team, responsible for managing a portfolio of Latent Defect Insurance Recoveries cases on behalf of the client, working with clients, policyholders and property developers to achieve successful settlement results.
You will report to and be supported by the Recoveries Team Manager (RTM).
Key Activities:
Manage all phases of the Recoveries process to ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. This will include but is not limited to:
Receive new cases.
Complete initial case review within agreed timeframe.
Check all case details to ensure information is accurate and complete. Identify and remedy any queries, discrepancies and/or omissions.
Make appropriate decision on case validity, following approved guidelines.
If case is rejected, prepare rejection letter for review by the RTM and distribute to policyholder once approved.
If accepted, prepare case strategy review (CSR) and submit for review by the RTM.
Once reviewed, make necessary adjustments to the CSR based on feedback from the RTM and submit for further review as required. Continue this phase until RTM approval received.
Once RTM approval received, progress the Recoveries case through to conclusion, completing agreed actions in a timely manner.
Manage all negotiation with stakeholders. Ensure all parties are kept up to date with case developments.
Proactively identify cases where a reasonable agreement cannot be achieved and escalate as appropriate.
Accurately interpret legal documentation, expert reports and insurance policies.
Raise and/or request payments as appropriate, ensuring all information is accurate and complete.
Update Case Management Portal System to ensure all records are accurate and complete, and all data is securely stored following appropriate guidelines.
Participate in any internal or external training as required. You will be expected to achieve the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Certificate in Insurance (Level 3) within an agreed timeframe (if you have not already done so), with the potential for further professional study as your career develops. The company will cover the cost of all training fees but reserves the right to claim back some or all of the costs should you leave the company within a certain timeframe (as stipulated in your contract of employment).
Manage inbound and outbound calls, emails and letters with insurers, policyholders, property developers, fellow professionals and industry specialists.
Manage diary to ensure optimum use of time and resources, meeting all agreed deadlines.
Liaise with policyholders and experts to ensure accurate and timely settlement of cases.
Adopt a proactive approach when managing own case portfolio.
Ensure customers are treated fairly in line with policy terms and conditions, abiding by all relevant legal requirements, industry guidelines and company standards.
On occasion, opportunities may arise to join other colleagues on site visits across the UK.
Actively participate in team discussions to highlight issues and promote group learning.
Perform other tasks as reasonably required by RTM or Senior Management.
Skills and Experience required:
Ideally 2+ years experience of insurance recoveries cases. A background in Latent Defects Insurance is desirable.
Proven ability to robustly challenge and negotiate, demonstrating resilience and professionalism when under pressure.
Demonstrable experience of reviewing and interpreting legal documents. Experience of working as a Paralegal would be a bonus.
Experience of IT systems including MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams, and experience of Claims Management or Case Management Portal Systems. Training on company systems will be given.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Bachelor degree (required), ideally in Law or legal-related subject.
GCSE English Language grade 5/C or equivalent.
Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Certificate in Insurance (Level 3) (required or progressing towards).
Knowledge of housebuilding and/or the general construction industry would be advantageous but training will be provided as required.
